International Cooperation

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an urgent and global challenge that no country can handle alone. The exchange of knowledge and experience accelerates technical progress and the implementation of the CCS technology.
- In joint research projects, BGR cooperates with the European Network of Excellence CO2GeoNet, which was founded in 2004.
- BGR is involved in the networks of the IEA-GHG programme, thus profiting from the experiences gained in international pilot projects, which are discussed in regular network meetings.
- BGR teaches young scientists and professionals in different programs, such as Technical Cooperation, IEA-GHG Summer School or EAGE Student Lecture Tour.
The Task Force “GeoEnergy” of the European Geological Surveys advises the European Commission with regard to the regulation of CO2 storage, and endeavours to jointly agree upon common geotechnical standards throughout Europe.
Past projects:
- CO2GEONET European Network of Excellence on Geological Storage of CO2 (in German only)
- CGS EUROPE Pan-European Coordination Action on CO2 Geological Storage (in German only)
