Ocean bottom seismometers

To perform seismic refraction, BGR uses 13 ocean bottom seismometers (OBS). These instruments have sensors to measure pressure variations (hydrophones) as well as movements of the sea floor (geophones). The OBS are deployed to the sea floor. While the vessel generates seismic energy, the OBS can record this signal also with great distance to the source.
